Plitvice Lakes National Park
When visiting Croatia, you absolutely cannot miss the “Land of the Falling Lakes”! Plitvice Lakes National Park, officially known as Plitvice Lakes National Park, is one of Croatia’s most iconic attractions. It is located in the karst mountain region of central Croatia and was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as early as 1979.

It is a place of natural beauty and legend. The intricate karst limestone formations showcase the unparalleled artistic power of nature. Every lake, cave, and waterfall displays a different posture due to the breath of the karst topography, while the swaying reeds and mistletoe along the roadside add a poetic touch to this painting.

The park consists of 16 large and small lakes, hence the name “Sixteen Lakes.” It is divided into two parts: the Upper Lakes and the Lower Lakes. The lakebeds of the Upper Lakes, which comprise 12 lakes, are made of travertine, while the Lower Lakes include four lakes located in limestone canyons. These lakes exhibit enchanting colors like emerald green or sapphire blue, earning them the title of the “jewel of Croatia”.
